<p><b>Maglie</b> ist eine <a href="Italienische_Gemeinden" title="Italienische Gemeinden">südostitalienische Gemeinde</a> (<i>comune</i>) in der <a href="Provinz_Lecce" title="Provinz Lecce">Provinz Lecce</a> in <a href="Apulien" title="Apulien">Apulien</a>.

</p>

<div class="mw-heading mw-heading2"><h2 id="Geografie">Geografie</h2></div>

<p>Die Gemeinde hat 13.259 Einwohner (Stand 31. Dezember 2024). Der Ort liegt etwa 30 Kilometer südwestlich der Stadt <a href="Lecce" title="Lecce">Lecce</a> und 16 Kilometer westlich von <a href="Otranto" title="Otranto">Otranto</a> in der <a href="Provinz_Lecce" title="Provinz Lecce">Provinz Lecce</a>. Nach Gallipoli im Westen sind es 31 Kilometer. Maglie gehört zum <a href="Salento" title="Salento">Salento</a>.

</p>

<div class="mw-heading mw-heading2"><h2 id="Geschichte">Geschichte</h2></div>

<p>Bei <a href="Arch%C3%A4ologie" title="Archäologie">archäologischen</a> <a href="Ausgrabung" title="Ausgrabung">Ausgrabungen</a> in Cattie wurden 1980 zahlreiche <a href="Altsteinzeit" title="Altsteinzeit">altsteinzeitliche</a> Funde gemacht. Aus zahlreichen <a href="Menhir" title="Menhir">Menhiren</a> und <a href="Megalith" title="Megalith">Megalithen</a>, die zu <a href="Dolmen" title="Dolmen">Dolmen</a> zusammengefügt wurden, lässt sich Besiedlung für <a href="Bronzezeit" title="Bronzezeit">Bronze-</a> und frühe <a href="Eisenzeit" title="Eisenzeit">Eisenzeit</a> nachweisen. Zu den bekanntesten zählen der Dolmen Chianca und der Menhir San Giovanni. Diese archäologischen Belege unterstreichen die Bedeutung der Region um Maglie als eines der wichtigsten Zentren für <a href="Megalithkultur" title="Megalithkultur">Megalithkultur</a> in Europa. Viele der paläolithischen Funde aus der Cattie-Grabung sowie Exponate aus der nahen Grotta Cervi (Porto Badisco) sind heute im <i>Museo Civico di Paleontologia e Paletnologia „Decio de Lorentiis“</i> in Maglie ausgestellt.

</p><p>Die frühe Besiedlung erklärt sich durch die zentrale Lage auf der salentinischen Halbinsel, die bereits in der Antike als wichtiger Kreuzungspunkt für Handelswege zwischen der Adria und dem Ionischen Meer diente.

</p><p>Maglie ist bekannt für die prachtvolle Barockarchitektur und gut erhaltene Fassaden im historischen Zentrum. Der Palazzo Arabesco Aprile ist ein bekanntes architektonisches Beispiel im Ortskern. Die Chiesa Collegiata di San Nicola (auch bekannt als <i>Duomo di Maglie</i> oder <i>Chiesa della Presentazione del Signore</i>, auch kurz <i>Chiesa Collegiata</i>) ist das bedeutendste religiöse Bauwerk der Stadt und hat mit 48 Metern den zweithöchste Glockenturm in der Provinz Lecce.

</p><p>Das Geburtshaus von <a href="Aldo_Moro" title="Aldo Moro">Aldo Moro</a>, einem bedeutenden italienischen Staatsmann, befindet sich ebenfalls in Maglie.

<div class="mw-heading mw-heading2"><h2 id="Verkehr_und_Wirtschaft">Verkehr und Wirtschaft</h2></div>

<p>Maglie ist aufgrund seiner Lage im geografischen Zentrum des Salento ein zentraler Verkehrsknotenpunkt für die gesamte Provinz Lecce. Die <a href="Strada_Statale_16_Adriatica" title="Strada Statale 16 Adriatica">Strada Statale 16 Adriatica</a> ist als Umgehungsstraße um den Ort ausgebaut. Weitere wichtige Anbindung ist die <i>Strada statale 275 di Santa Maria di Leuca</i> (SS275). Maglie verfügt über einen Bahnhof an den Strecken der regionalen Bahngesellschaft <a href="Ferrovie_del_Sud_Est" title="Ferrovie del Sud Est">Ferrovie del Sud Est</a> (FSE) an die <a href="Bahnstrecke_Maglie%E2%80%93Otranto" title="Bahnstrecke Maglie–Otranto">Bahnstrecke Maglie–Otranto</a> und damit an die <a href="Bahnstrecke_Zollino%E2%80%93Gagliano_Leuca" title="Bahnstrecke Zollino–Gagliano Leuca">Bahnstrecke Zollino–Gagliano Leuca</a>. Nächstgelegene Flughäfen sind <a href="Flughafen_Brindisi" title="Flughafen Brindisi">Flughafen Brindisi</a> (BDS) in etwa 80 km und <a href="Flughafen_Bari" title="Flughafen Bari">Flughafen Bari</a> (BRI) in etwa 200 km.

</p><p>Maglie wird oft als die „Wirtschaftshauptstadt“ des unteren Salento bezeichnet und überregional bekannt als Handelszentrum für Spitzen- und Stickkunst für Textilien (bekannt für den „Punto Maglie“). Ebenso überregional bekannt ist die Schokoladenmanufaktur Maglio (Maglio Cioccolato) und Unternehmen der Teigwarenherstellung (Pastificio Benedetto Cavalieri).
